| Non-Fiction Archaeology:
Note: For the moment, our entire archaeology selection is from Count
Bryon Khun de Prorok, the intrepid and adventurous archaeologist from
the early 20th century. In the near future, we will soon expand our
selection to include works from other archaeologists and scientists, as
well as those from other walks of life who have written works just as
interesting and thought provoking concerning the history and mysteries
of our world. While we do not take sides, we wish to present both the traditional
history, and the speculative theories concerning our past.

Vintage Adventure's
"Required" Reading List
We soon will publish our own short handbook of ancient
history and mystery for all to enjoy, but until we do, here are some
excellent reads that will build a base for any modern day adventurer to
prepare themselves for their next adventure- or just a rousing discussion at
their local coffee shop on migration theories, pyramid construction
techniques, or the lost treasure of Atahualpa! You will note that many
books are fairly old- while there is much new information today, these old
books present a good base of earlier known history- plus, it is the opinion
of Vintage Adventure that these old books often present the information in a
more enjoyable context. (After all, this is VINTAGE adventure!) Some books
are out of print, but may possibly be found through
www.alibris.com . There are so
many excellent books out there, that this list will always be incomplete-
this is simply a list of suggested reads- if you would like to add any
reviews or suggestions of your own, or If you
are own a specialty bookstore
and deal with adventure/exploration classics, please email us at Guide@vintageadventure.com. We are always
looking to expand our collection and help others preserve the experience of lost
adventures
from years past.

Pulp Adventure Fiction
Here is a collection of some favorite fiction authors of
Vintage Adventure- great for those afternoon or
evening escapes to other worlds and time periods...
Author:
Lester Dent/Kenneth Robeson
Dent, (aka Kenneth Robeson)-the creator of Doc Savage- wrote most
of the prolific pulp
adventure/fantasy series' from the 1930s.
Too many titles to list here,
but all make for a great 'Saturday matinee read'.
Definately in the tradition of Vintage Adventure.
Author Will Murray assumed the same
pen name to continue the series-click
here to read the interview from the Denver Business Journal that goes
into the details of the invention of Doc Savage, his creator Lester Dent,
and how Will Murray is working to continue the legacy today!
Author: H. Bedford-Jones
A great pulp fiction writer who contributed many stories to some of
the famous mystery magazines of the 1920's and 1930s. With exciting
titles such as Pearls From Macao, The Warlord's Gold, Ship of Shadows,
and Jewels of Java, you cant go wrong! (see the link below to
purchase these)
Author: Clark Ashton Smith
Born in 1893 Clark Ashton Smith wrote many tales of fantasy and adventure
taking place in the Orient, Hyperborea and even Atlantis. His book The
Black Diamond, (1907) is a fast-paced story of kidnapping, piracy and
mysticism that was published when he was only 14 years old! The book may be
found and purchased at the link below.
Author: James Dark
In 1965 author James Dark introduced the world to Mark Hood, specialist in
martial arts, international race car driver, ex-olympic skier, and deadly
secret agent for Intertrust: a world-wide security organization that
specializes in eliminating global threats. Most of the books are quick
reads- less than 175 pages. A bit campy, but oh what fun! Here
are just a couple covers along with a list of the entire series. Out of print
and hard to find- but well worth the search! Happy hunting!
Come Die With Me, 1965
The Bamboo Bomb, 1965
Assignment: Tokyo, 1966
Hong Kong Incident, 1966
Throne of Satan, 1967
Operation Scuba, 1968
Spying Blind, 1968
Operation Octopus, 1968
The Sword of Gengis Khan, 1969 (?)
The Invisibles, 1969
Operation Ice Cap, 1969 (?)
Sea Scrape, 1970
Author: Sax Rohmer
Creator of the 'Fu Manchu' series from the 1920-30s, pitting secret
agent hero Nayland Smith against the destructive and diabolical genious of
Dr. Fu Manchu. He also wrote many books outside of the
Fu Manchu series, and much earlier. One of those is Tales of Secret
Egypt, from 1919.
Author: Edgar Rice Burroughs
Everyone should know of this legendary writer who created both
Tarzan of the Jungle and John Carter, Warlord of Mars.
Vintage Adventure actually prefers his one-off books such as
The Lost Continent and The Land of the Hidden Men. With
titles like these, you can understand why.
Author: Robert E. Howard
Great fantasy/adventure writer from the 1920-30s who produced heroes
such as Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane, and Kull of Atlantis, among
others. Amazing to think he created all this before his untimely death
at age 30. Here is a cover of a comic adaptation of his famous Conan
character.
Some great new books are out by Del Ray
that feature original stories of both Conan
and Solomon Kane.
